George Bergeron

Harrison’s father and Hazel’s husband. Because George is very strong, he must wear weights around his neck. George, is also intellegent and must also wear a radio that prohibits him from thinking deeply. The noises broadcast at twenty-second intervals by this radio interfere with George’s natural tendency toward intense thought. Despite his pensive nature, George is not bold. He "believes in obeying the law and avoiding risks" (Spark). He is also a bit emotionless, urging his wife to "forget her sadness and reacting to his son’s televised adventure by going to the kitchen for a beer" (Spark). George shows someone who is accepting of what his government has done and simply trying to live life.
